We were told to wear crosses, clerical collars, call ourselves 'Reverend' and a bunch of other tripe to get scientology perceived as a religion. Hubbard came up with a quickie 'ordination' course which made you a scientology minister. He threw together some marriage, baptisms and other 'religious' ceremonies as part of this scheme. You should check them out...they are a hoot.
At a deeper 'very secret' level, Hubbard said that scientology adapting the cross symbol was appropriate because it represented the thetan betrayed. Hubbard in his secret OT courses teaches that thetans or spirits upon death are programmed to return to Implant Station on Mars and Venus. Once returned to the Implant Station, the 'thetan' is pinned with electronic beams and zapped to forget it's last life and programmed to return to earth for another life and other assorted science fiction garbage that only L. Ron Hubbard could come up with and charge $1000 an hour to learn these secrets and have it declared tax-exempt. So you can see by Hubbard's psycho thinking that the cross symbolizes the 'thetan pinned and zapped by electronic implant beams'.
Is this a great religion or what?
